What this notice covers
This notice explains what personal data we collect through smartermanufacture.co.uk, why we collect it, what we do with it and what rights you have. It does not cover other websites we link to, which have their own privacy notices.
Details of the individual cookies used on this site are set out separately in our Cookie Policy.
The information we collect
When you contact us
If you complete the enquiry form on this site we collect your name, your email address and whatever you choose to write in the message. That enquiry is sent to us by email. We also collect your details if you telephone or email us directly.
When you browse the site
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people find and use this website. Analytics cookies are only stored or read after you choose Statistics in the cookie banner. You can accept, reject or change that choice at any time.
Google Consent Mode is set to deny analytics storage before you consent. In that state, Google Analytics does not read or write analytics cookies, but it may receive limited cookieless measurement signals. These can include browser and device information, screen resolution and an IP address during transmission. Google states that IP addresses are not stored or logged in Google Analytics.
We do not use this site for personalised advertising and we do not use analytics information to identify you.
The site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts. To deliver those files Google receives the address of the device you are browsing with. No cookie is set for this.
Keeping the form usable
The enquiry form uses a simple check built into the site to confirm that a submission comes from a person rather than an automated script. It does not involve any outside service and it does not track you.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
To answer your enquiry and provide a quotation. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests, namely responding to a request you have made. If we go on to work together, our basis becomes performance of a contract.
To keep in touch about services you have asked about. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests. You can ask us to stop at any time.
To understand and improve the website. We rely on your consent before Google Analytics stores or reads analytics cookies. For the limited cookieless measurement that may occur while analytics storage is denied, our lawful basis is legitimate interests in understanding overall site performance.
To keep the site and our forms secure. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests, namely preventing abuse and spam.
To meet our legal and accounting obligations. Our lawful basis is compliance with a legal obligation.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it to make automated decisions about you.
Who we share it with
We share personal data only with organisations that help us run the business, and only so far as they need it:
- our website host and email provider, so the site runs and your enquiry reaches us
- Google, which provides Google Analytics and serves the typefaces used on this site
- our accountants and professional advisers, where required
Some of these providers are based outside the UK. Where personal data is transferred outside the UK, it is protected by the safeguards allowed under UK data protection law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or an adequacy decision.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiry correspondence for up to 24 months from our last contact with you, unless you become a customer, in which case we keep records for as long as we work together and for six years afterwards to meet our accounting and legal obligations. Google Analytics retention is managed within the Analytics property.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- ask us to correct anything that is wrong
- ask us to delete it, where there is no good reason for us to keep it
- ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to our use of it
- ask us to transfer it to another organisation
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent
To exercise any of these, email r.duff@smartquality.co.uk or write to us at the address above. We will respond within one month. There is no charge.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK supervisory authority for data protection.
